For some reason, it seems that Asterisk will recompile everything if it hasn't been touched in a while, even if no compilation settings have changed (e.g. in menuselect). Usually noticed when updating a single module, and then everything recompiles. This happens noticeably on the 'ess' switch, even after a migration to a new server and more recent Asterisk version. May possibly have to do with some of the proprietary modules, though that seems unlikely. First step to debug would probably be to have enough debug to see why we're recompiling - e.g. have menuselect print it out.
